GEMPACK (General Equilibrium Modelling PACKage) is a suite of economic modelling software. It is especially suitable for computable general equilibrium (CGE) models, but can handle a wide range of economic behaviour.

GEMPACK enables modellers to solve very large systems of non-linear

     equations.

Once the model equations have been specified using an algebra-like

     notation, modellers are freed from the computing details of the solution

     process.

The GEMPACK software calculates accurate solutions of the economic

     model.

    Detailed instructions (including many hands-on examples) help new users to

    get started.

GEMPACK Windows programs help you visualize and explore code, data

     and results.

Different Versions of GEMPACK

The three different versions of GEMPACK all allow you to use and modify existing models or to build new models. The main difference between the versions is the size of the models they can handle.

The Limited Executable-Image Version can only handle small or medium-sized models, such as single-country models with less than 40 sectors or multi-regional models with up to 9 or 10 regions and sectors.

The Unlimited Executable-Image Version can handle models of any size. You are limited only by the amount of memory on your computer. Only site licences are available.

The Source-Code Version can also handle models of any size, but it solves large models much more quickly than the Unlimited Executable-Image Version.

　

I Want to Work with GTAP. Which GEMPACK Version Do I Need?

　

Teaching or Basic Use

This applies if you want to carry out simulations with the standard GTAP
model with up to 9 commodities and 9 regions. This does not apply if you need to modify the standard GTAP model.

You can work with RunGTAP as supplied by GTAP You do not need to purchase GEMPACK or a GEMPACK licence.

　

Policy Analysis

This applies if you want to carry out simulations with the standard GTAP model with more than 9 commodities and/or 9 regions. This does not apply if you need to modify the standard GTAP model.

You need to purchase an Introductory GEMPACK licence.

　

Beginning Modeller

This applies if you need to modify the standard GTAP model (that is, if you want to change any of the equations or want to add some new equations) but are content to work with up to 9 commodities and 9 regions.

You need to purchase the Limited Executable-Image Version of GEMPACK.

　

Serious Modeller

This applies if you need to modify the standard GTAP model and need to work with more than 9 commodities and/or 9 regions.

You need to purchase either the Unlimited Executable-Image Version of GEMPACK or a Source-Code Version of GEMPACK.
